Artist Statement:
My work is about light, color and geometry. I have my way of capturing everyday life, would it be a still life, a cityscape, an interior space or a portraiture. I work with bold colors to express energies and I believe that my palette is reflecting our time. Now days it is all about a personal identity in time and space and for that matter I have to find a particular light key in every painting that will address a moment that people can recognize and respond. I am interested in refining ideas of contrast, vibrancy and unity of colors at the same time. Process is everything and I hope to be more clear, fresh and vital in the future. The sense of a painted line and cutouts quality of my shapes came out from my strong responce to geometry and the early work in paper collages. Geometry was always the way to simplify shapes and to be as direct as possible. Currently I do the same type of work except without paper and scissors, only using paint and brushes directly on canvas. Everything is done with a free hand, I do use markers and rulers for some thin details, but I do not tape my shapes. I use a thin paint application with hard edges and I eliminate texture completely in order for the color to be the main focus. Geometry gives a structure to build any composition and often a beautiful architecture or an interior space could be an inspiration for a new piece. Painting to me is constant problem solving and endless choices making activity. I guess my best expectation from my work is to surprise myself and hopefully the viewer.I believe that all the best works are still ahead of me and it gives me a strong motivation to keep on working.
